In-house testing
Powers Fasteners has an in-house testing facility in Melbourne enabling the
company to conduct tests in accordance with the current standards in concrete,
aerated concrete (Hebel), masonry, timber, structural steel, steel sheets and other
base materials that require fixings. The tests may also be conducted to simulate site
load conditions e.g. by applying load at a particular location / point on the fixture.
Both load (kN) and linear displacement (mm) can be measured and recorded simultaneously
using load cell and LVDT connected to a computer with software that plots
load-displacement charts during tests.
Concrete blocks of different strengths are cast at Powers Fasteners' premises by
ordering concrete from concrete delivering companies like Boral. Each concrete block
is marked. The compressive strength is also measured using SCHMIDT hammer equipment
when the anchors are tested in the block. Testing facility in Melbourne is equipped
with the testing equipment required to perform all standard tests as listed below and
these tests are conducted on almost daily basis:
- Static tension loads on anchors
- Static shear loads on anchors
- Minimum edge distance tests
- Static tension loads on screws in different thicknesses of steel, timber and
other base materials
- Static shear load on screws in different thicknesses of steel, timber and
other base materials
- Drilling speed tests for drilling capability of screws
- Torque tests on screws and anchors
In addition to testing facility in Melbourne, the tests are also conducted at
Powers Fasteners' in-house testing facility in USA and EUROPE. Some of Powers
Fasteners' products are also tested and certified by Independent organizations like
Branz (NZ), CSIRO (AU), EOTA (Europe), International Code Council, Evaluation Services
(ICC-ES), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Factory Mutual (FM Global) and other
organizations.
In-house inspection and testing program is there to ensure supply of high-quality
products to our customers. Our technical personnel at the testing facilities are
experienced and technically knowledgeable in the quality control of anchoring
products.
